The concept of 'Metaverse' was first introduced in the novel 'Snow Crash' by American novelist Neil Stevens in 1992. It is a combination the prefix “Meta,” the Greek word meaning beyond and transcendence, and “Universe,” meaning the World. Therefore, the ‘Metaverse’ can be defined as an ecosystem in which the real and the virtual world interact and evolve together.
We already have been experiencing a form of Metaverse in cyberspace for a long time. But, As opposed to the past cyberspace only allowing limited activities within limited space, the present Metaverse, which is endlessly expanding, has less restrictions and dramatically more possibilities. Namely, the virtual reality services of the past provided were disconnected from the real world. However, the current metaverse is breaking down those boundaries and creating new values in which the virtual and the real coexist.
The Metaverse is not a future far beyond us, but an imminent reality. Real experiences are taking place in the virtual world. The metaverse world is no longer virtual, but an extension of real life. The Metaverse will soon bring remarkable changes to human life. How will the future and the Metaverse world change life and humanity? How will our daily lives look different?
